When Alexander Hernandez started with the production of coffee 12 years ago his farm was barely making enough money to cover his operating costs. He thought that the specialty coffee market was a myth! Alexander didn’t believe that he could receive better prices by producing better quality coffee. However, 5 years ago, he decided to take the risk and give specialty coffee production a go. Almost instantly he noticed that specialty coffee not only offered him excellent prices for his coffee but helped him improve his family’s quality of life. He also learned that a careful and methodical approach to growing, harvesting and processing his coffee ensured the recognition and acknowledgment from the specialty coffee buyers.
“When I used to produce conventional coffee, I didn’t realise the treasure that I had on my farm. I had the raw material, but I didn’t know how to work with it. Now I know that I have a valuable product on my farm and that motivates me to continue improving every day.” said Alexander. Today, coffee is the way of living for Alexander and his family. He likes to enjoy the lifestyle and health that his farm offers his family.
