In the far west of Guatemala is a region named Huehuetenango (pron. huweh-huweh-ten-an-go) that is home to some of the countries most prized coffees that frequently find their way to the winners podium in the Cup of Excellence. It is also home to Alfonso Anzueto who is a third generation coffee farmer currently managing Finca Calahute which has been in his family since the 1950's. To help sustain the local economy, Alfonso employees up to 100 local workers to help with the harvesting of coffee cherries in peak season. To achieve the highest possibly quality and the best price for his coffee Alfonso educates these workers to ensure they are only picking cherries at their ripest and free from defect.
