This is our first time showcasing a coffee from this renowned co-op in Nyeri—and it’s a beauty. Gatomboya is one of several factories operated by the Barichu Farmers’ Cooperative Society, a collective of small-scale farmers whose plots are often no bigger than a backyard. Together, they produce some of the most vibrant and distinctive coffees in Kenya.
Nyeri, nestled on the slopes of Mount Kenya, is famous for its high altitudes, cool climate, and rich volcanic soils—all of which come together to grow coffee with exceptional clarity and structure. At Gatomboya, ripe cherries are carefully sorted, fermented, washed and slow-dried on raised beds—a process that’s as much about patience as it is about precision.
We’ve long admired coffees from this region for their intensity and elegance, and we’re stoked to finally have one on the menu. Gatomboya’s debut with us is all redcurrant, black tea, and zingy citrus—a sparkling example of what Nyeri does best.
We roast coffee fresh each Monday, if stock has sold out we will ship the following roast day. Please refer to our shipping page for more information.
