Around 750 smallholder farmers contribute their coffee cherries to Halo Beriti Washing Station in the Geed region of Yirgacheffe. The farmer's plots are often tiny, less than half a hectare, and they grow coffee alongside other crops. During harvest they deliver their coffee in cherry form, this particular lot has been hand-sorted repeatedly throughout the receiving and drying process, this 'special preparation', whilst more laborious, increases the quality of the lot, meaning sweeter, cleaner tasting coffee.
Washed coffees from Yirgacheffe are a treat and something we look forward to every year, their floral and delicate complexity is something to savour and this year's lot is incredible!
