The Kainamui factory in Kenya is the heart of a vibrant coffee community, serving around 1,800 smallholder farmers from the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society.
Among them, 600 are women, each tending to around 200 coffee trees on small plots of land. Alongside coffee, they cultivate crops like macadamia, bananas, and tea, balancing the delicate ecosystem of their farms. The cooperative also provides essential support, offering training and financial aid to cover school fees and emergency costs.
Set against the backdrop of Kirinyaga, near the towering Mt. Kenya, these farms benefit from rich volcanic soil and abundant rainfall. This unique environment, paired with the dedication of the farmers, yields exceptional coffee that’s often traceable to specific mills and farms.
It’s a story of tradition, nature, and community, all working together to produce some of Kenya’s finest coffee.
