Sitting in the lush hills of Kirinyaga, just outside Embu, Kii has quietly built a reputation for producing some of the region’s most polished and balanced coffees. It’s part of the Rungeto Farmers’ Co-op, and serves a tight-knit network of smallholder farmers from nearby villages—most tending a mix of SL28 and SL34 trees on tiny family plots.
The factory itself has been running since the late ’60s and operates like clockwork: cherries are pulped with river water, fermented overnight, then given the full Kenyan soak before drying on raised beds. There’s a calm efficiency to Kii, and you can taste it in the cup—everything feels dialled in.
We’ve featured Kii a few times over the years, and this release might just be the best yet—layered, composed, and effortlessly clean. Not a big, booming showstopper—just quietly excellent from start to finish.
