Finca La Palma was passed down to Nito Arbey from his father, with whom he worked closely from a young age. Together, they managed the day-to-day running of the farm, but Nito also took on the task of finding better prices for their coffee—eventually partnering with the cooperative Café Andino in Bruselas.
It was through this co-op that Nito first discovered the world of specialty coffee. With around 25 years of experience in coffee under his belt, he gradually took on more responsibility as his father grew older. Seven years ago, he fully stepped into the role of managing the farm himself.
This new chapter brought with it a renewed focus: caring more attentively for the coffee trees, refining post-harvest practices, and beginning to deliver coffee directly to Caravela. Since then, Nito has consistently received higher premiums, and his coffees have regularly achieved AA-grade recognition. Now, after years of hard work, he's proud to have produced his first few Microlots.
Finca La Palma is special to Nito not only because it's part of his father's legacy, but also for its location, rich soil, and the incredible coffee it continues to yield. Today, he works side by side with his wife, Ana Edith, who plays a key role in the farm’s success. She meticulously tracks every detail—each lot, each record—and oversees the post-harvest process, while Nito focuses on the trees and their care.
What makes Nito most proud is producing specialty coffee that earns better prices—allowing him to reinvest in quality and continue improving, season after season.
