Coffee cherries that arrive at the Uraga washing station are grown mostly by 'garden farmers' meaning they are produced on very small farms (often less than 1/2 a hectare) and grown along side other crops such as corn, barley and wheat. Farmers deliver their ripe cherries to the mill, where they are sorted and graded with grea care. After pulping they are fermented for 36-48 hours before being washed and placed on raised beds to dry for 10-12 days, being turned every 2-3 hours to ensure even drying.

So much pride and care goes into producing coffee from this region of Ethiopia and it shows in the cup. We are always grateful to be able to serve coffee from this magical part of the world.
