WHAT WASHED FILTER COFFEES ARE IN THE BOX?

WILMAR GUARNIZO

FARM: la vega
REGION: taqui
MUNICIPALITY: HUILA
HARVESTED: SEPTEMBER
VARIETY: GESHA, CATURRA
ALTITUDE: 1,750 MASL
PROCESS: WASHED

In the Huila highlands of Tarqui, Wilmar Guarnizo stands out among his ten siblings for transforming the La Vega farm, inherited in 2002 with no coffee trees, into a beacon of specialty coffee.

As the family's linchpin, he spearheaded the adoption of advanced coffee production techniques, fostering a spirit of collaboration. The Guarnizo family, including Wilmar's wife Tania and daughter, who manage cherry fermentation and drying, exemplify teamwork in their pursuit of coffee excellence.

Wilmar's leadership extends beyond farming to conserving local forests, embodying a commitment to both family and environmental stewardship. His success in specialty coffee enabled him to fulfil a promise to build a beautiful family home, marking a milestone in their shared journey.

LAS COLINAS

PRODUCER: 10 small-scale growers
REGION: MOZONTE
MUNICIPALITY: NUEVA SEGOVIA
VARIETY: Catuaí, Caturra, Pacamara
ALTITUDE: 1,450-1,650 MASL
PROCESS: WASHED

Mozonte, a region of Nicaragua steeped in coffee-growing traditions that span generations, maintains strong ties to its indigenous culture and its people. The ten families behind Las Colinas have partnered with Caravela Coffee since 2012, striving to enhance the quality of their coffee with each passing harvest.

Despite receiving 1500-1800mm of rainfall annually, the growers encountered a significant challenge in consistently drying the coffee post-harvest. Caravela's introduction of a drying facility provided them with greater control during this crucial stage, leading to substantial improvements in quality.

The outcome is Las Colinas, a coffee brimming with sweetness, boasting rich, chocolatey notes, and offering a delightful drinking experience, cup after cup!

MARINELA YATE

FARM: SANTA MONICA
REGION: SAN ANTONIO
MUNICIPALITY: TOLIMA
HARVESTED: AUGUST
VARIETY: CATURRA, COLOMBIA
ALTITUDE: 1,750 MASL
PROCESS: WASHED

Marinela and her husband, Oscar, have been managing their coffee farm, Santa Monica, since 2007. It wasn't until 2017 that they shifted to specialty production.

This was a pivotal moment for the couple, who, alongside their two daughters, run what is essentially a family operation. An event in 2017 highlighted coffee defects and their causes, prompting Marinela and her husband to switch production to specialty and focus more on growing high-quality micro-lots.

Marinela is eager to emphasise the arduous work that goes into producing coffee of this calibre and hopes you enjoy every sip. Cheers Marinela, we appreciate what you do, and the coffee speaks for itself.

We roast coffee fresh each Monday, if stock has sold out we will ship the following roast day. Please refer to our shipping page for more information.
