We’re always drawn to coffees with a strong sense of place, and this one from Felipe Estela carries that in spades. Felipe is a second-generation coffee producer from Querocotillo, in the northern reaches of Cajamarca, where coffee growing is deeply woven into family life, local identity, and the landscape itself.
He produces coffee as part of the El Morito community, a network built around the legacy of Faustino Flores and a wider family of growers who have helped shape this corner of Peru into one of the country’s most exciting coffee-producing regions.
What we love about this lot is that it speaks not just to Felipe’s work, but to the broader story of El Morito. Since the Flores family established themselves in San Ignacio in 2009, they’ve built something that feels both ambitious and grounded, a close-knit producing community centred on quality, progress, and long-term investment in the region.
The lot we purchased is a blend of Bourbon and Caturra, grown in the highlands of Cajamarca, where elevation, climate, and careful farming continue to push the quality coming out of this region higher each season. For us, it’s a coffee that reflects the strength of family, the value of community, and the steady work of producers like Felipe who are helping define the future of Peruvian coffee.
