Gathaithi, a quiet powerhouse from Nyeri. This long-running factory sits between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare Range, right in the heart of Kenya’s most celebrated coffee-growing region. It’s a landscape of cool nights, red volcanic soils and steady rainfall—ideal conditions for slow, even ripening and beautifully structured coffees.
half an acre—where coffee is grown alongside bananas, maize and macadamias. The factory has been operating since 1967 and still follows the traditional Kenyan washed process: ripe cherries are hand-sorted, fermented overnight, soaked, then dried carefully on raised beds.
We’ve worked with Gathaithi several times over the years, and it's become something of a quiet favourite. It’s the kind of place that gets the best out of its environment—producing coffees that speak clearly of Nyeri and the people who farm its hills.
