Karen Mendoza's family coffee farm is nestled on the mountainous slopes on the edges of the municipality of Jaen. It's on this farm, El Palmo, that Karen learned how to produce coffee. Her parents began teaching her from a young age and six years ago she took over the production of the farm with the goal of eventually shifting to specialty grade. That shift came two years ago, and each harvest since has seen an increase in quality and fetched better prices. Better prices enabled the family to improve their homestead and enhance their quality of life.
What's next for this pioneering young producer? Karen wants to build a wet mill on the farm to improve their coffee even more, and we can't wait till she does!
