Fernando García Contreras was born in the thick of the Colombian civil war, the violence and fighting forced Fernando's father to take his family and flee to nearby Huila. It was here that Fernando took the lessons he learnt from his father growing coffee in Caquetá and began to grow coffee himself, rekindling his passion for farming the land. Two years ago he and his wife decided to transition the farm to producing specialty coffee as a way to receive better prices and improve his family and his community's quality of life. His hard work has been rewarded, earning himself a place in the prestigious Cup of Excellence awards.
